On trying to load that file, GNS3 tells me "Sorry, this is not a valid IOU image!" I go to "Edit -> Preferences" and select "IOS on Linux" (which is basically what IOS-xe is) -> IOU Devices -> New -> 元 Image and browse for the file "cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.06.08.SPA.bin" - which is a perfectly good IOS image, because I've already successfully installed that very file on the real switch, so I know it's not corrupted, etc. You also have EVE-NG (which is not Cisco) and I personally have not used it but it’s looks much nicer than GNS3. What I (and most of the people) recommend is Ciscos own virtual lab, CML (Cisco Modeling Lab) that is equivalent to GNS3 but a little bit better. There's no 元 Switches type predefined, so I understand I need to create my own template. There are free IOS images but would not recommend you to download those. I had no problems with setting up the GNS3 VM on a hypervisor, connecting to it remotely from my clients with the GNS3 software and starting a new project. First step of that would be to simulate my Cisco Catalyst 3650-48PS-S, with "IP-Base" license and it's current configuration. I was hoping to use GNS3 to create a "reference model" of my network. ![]()
